Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Helping You Understand Myofunctional Therapy — and How We Make It Personal
-
Myofunctional therapy is a series of gentle exercises and habit training focused on the muscles of the tongue, face, head and neck. It helps improve breathing, oral posture, and overall oral function— often improving outcomes in orthodontics, airway health, and jaw comfort. Think of it like physical therapy — but for your mouth!

Tongue tie recovery
Chronic allergies or open-mouth posture

Carol isn’t just a certified myofunctional therapist — she’s a Registered Dental Hygienist with over a decade of experience working with dentists, orthodontists, and surgeons. Her clients often describe her as a “Dental Doula” because she offers hands-on, supportive, and personalized guidance every step of the way. This includes coordinating care, educating families, and being present during major milestones like frenectomies.

Yes, absolutely!
If you're undergoing a frenectomy (tongue tie release), Carol can accompany you to the procedure, act as a liaison with your provider, and help ensure the experience is as smooth as possible. She’ll also guide you through pre-release mobility prep and post-op recovery exercises to maximize results and prevent reattachment. -

Orthodontics move the teeth — myofunctional therapy trains the muscles that hold them in place.
Without proper tongue posture and swallowing patterns, teeth can shift back after braces. Therapy during or after orthodontics helps:Support arch expansion
Maintain alignment
Prevent relapse
Improve long-term outcomes
Carol works closely with orthodontists to integrate therapy into your treatment timeline.

No referral is needed!
While we often collaborate with dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, and sleep specialists, you can schedule your consultation directly with us — no referral required. If we believe a medical or dental specialist is needed, we’ll help you connect with the right provider. -
Currently, most insurance plans do not cover myofunctional therapy. However, HSA/FSA cards can often be used, and we’re happy to provide superbills for reimbursement submissions. We also offer affordable, transparent pricing and package options.
-
It depends on your goals and starting point, but most clients work with us for 3 to 6 months. Frequency and duration depend on age, consistency with exercises, and whether other treatments (like tongue tie release or orthodontics) are also part of the plan.
Carol will always tailor the timeline to your needs — and support you every step of the way.
